First Republic Banner from 1920
Օրացոյց Պահակի

This banner, published in 1920 and designed by N. Ejdaharian, brings together the symbols of the nascent Armenian statehood. Made from thick cardboard, it depicts the prominent statesmen and heroes of the First Republic of Armenia. Nestled between the portraits, a hand-drawn map of greater Armenia appears. Although the Republic of Armenian never established control over all of that territory, the map depicts the the historical homeland of Armenians, many of which took refuge from the Armenian Genocide and settled in the Caucasus. Additionally, drawings of a factory, a train and an airplane hint to the importance given to the modernization of this reborn nation and the hope for a peaceful and prosperous future.
